HOW TO INSTALL STRIPES AND STICKERS MOTORCYCLE RIM
The stickers rims are very simple to install, whatever the size or the surface of the rim, the procedure remains the same. You will find below a tutorial to help you to install correctly your stickers rim kit for your motorcycle. Discover how to install stripes motorcycle rim.
First of all, here are the precautions to take:
- Check that the rim is smooth.
- Clean and degrease the rim with soap/alcohol water. Do not use WD40 or other products with silicone. The rim must be perfectly clean.
- Do not handle the stickers on the glue side.
- If the stickers are not installed immediately, store them in a dry place out of the sun.
- At the time of the installation, choose a room with a temperature of at least 15°c, protected from wind and dust. It is also possible to heat the rim before installing the stickers to ensure a good adhesion of the adhesives. A too cold temperature will not allow an optimal adhesion of the stickers.
- After the installation, avoid contact with cold and humidity to guarantee a good adhesion of the adhesives
What you'll need:
- Degreaser/Household spirit
- A clean rag
- A pair of scissors
- A scraper (available here) / Credit card can also do the trick
- Scotch tape
- Heat gun or hair dryer
- 2 hours of your time
1- Preparation of stickers :
The stickers are delivered under transfer, and some are grouped like the rim strips. It is necessary to separate them by cutting them with a pair of scissors, then, to arrange them stickers on the ground or on a table with on a side the front rim, and on the other, the back rim. Then, pass strongly the scraper on the stickers flat in order to make them stick to the transfer and come off more easily. This will improve the installation.
2- Preparation of the rim:
Clean the surface of the rim perfectly with a degreasing product/ household alcohol, before gluing anything. Do not use any product with silicone such as WD40 or any other greasy substance such as polish, cream etc... if in doubt after cleaning, pour water if it beads your product is not good. The durability of stickers will depend mainly on the cleaning.
3- Laying the borders:
Your rims and stickers are ready! Now it's time to get down to business!
- First you have to position them without removing the film: put your borders in place and fix them with small pieces of tape. As soon as the stickers are well positioned, you can start the installation.
- From one end, pull on the transfer. The adhesive must come with and separate from the paper support (if the adhesive does not come, you must put the transfer back and press strongly on it with the scraper).
- You can apply the stripes with your hands. Then press with the squeegee.
- You can then gently remove the transfer by pulling it flat on the rim. Do not pull perpendicularly as this could cause the sticker to come off. Be careful not to handle the sticker on the glue side.
4- Installation of the stickers inside rims :
The method of application of the stickers is the same as the Stripess.
If you are afraid to put the stickers wrong, you can do it with water:
Installation with water: spray a little water directly on the rim where you will place your sticker. The water has the effect of deactivating the glue for a few moments in order to reposition the adhesive. Once the adhesive is positioned on the support, you must remove the water from the middle to the edges, using the scraper, and let it dry for a while. Try to gently remove the transfer, if the adhesive does not stay on the support, you must put a squeegee and wait again.
5- Finalization:
- Allow 48 to 72 hours for maximum bonding of the adhesive while the glue is bonding to the substrate.
- With this type of installation it is possible to use the vehicle immediately after installation
- You can heat the vinyl to strengthen the hold of the stickers on the rim and to make them take the curved shapes if needed
Notes: It is possible to heat the adhesives with the heat gun or hair dryer to make them more malleable, eliminate the small bubbles (the vinyls not being waterproof the air escapes naturally in a few days in the sun)
